5 ICED HEARTS

5 HEARTS is a shoe for horses that promotes biomechanical self-massage. This system allows and encourages a continuous flow of blood to the toe even in static and overloaded conditions according to the "5 hearts theory" explained by Dr. D'Arpe in 2009: "a horse standing still has only one heart, a horse in motion has 5, but with a self-massaging effect it has 5 even in stationary and overloaded conditions". 

The shoe is made of rubber, which means that it is relatively soft so that it has a wide margin of tolerance in adapting to the shape and size of the foot. Finally, 5 HEARTS are designed to be worn by the horse when resting in the box.

The 5 HEARTS shoe was created to be used with the Friotherapy system: a system studied and patented by Dr. D'Arpe and developed by Stilgomma for the treatment and prevention of "Laminitis". This innovative system is also useful for other minor problems and pathologies of the equine foot. In fact, the 5 HEARTS have a general beneficial effect on the biomechanical and physiological functionality of the finger in general, not just the foot, improving the functionality of all the anatomical structures of the horse's musculoskeletal system. The 5 HEARTS were created with the mission of providing all horses with an effective biomechanical and Fryotherapy system that is quick and easy to apply and relatively inexpensive.

The light and balanced biomechanical self-massage promotes blood flow to the Foot thanks to the opening of the safety valve anatomically constituted by the coronary bend and the ungueal cartilages, thus increasing the horn production speed and the thickness of the sole.

Thanks to the self-massaging effect, the shoes ensure the dynamic effect even in static, activating the shoulder and antebrachium muscles foot pump providing more arterial blood to the solear plexus to increase the hydrovolumetric shockabsorber of the foot "enclosed heart". All this maximizing the blood flow and minimizing the mechanical stress to the dermo-epidermal gear even during continuous prolonged overload and even under conditions of immobility.

Two different applications:

- Continuous prolonged Friotherapy for at least 3 days up to 3/4 weeks is recommended for horses undergoing acute inflammation of so-called "Laminitis" or better defined by Dr. D'Arpe in 2015 as "Solear and Laminar Coriumitis ". The first week with the wedge and rocking or dondolino, while from the second week without wedge.

- We recommend continuous Friotherapy for at least 4/6 hours a day for 4/6 weeks for horses in acute inflammation phase of so-called "Naviculitis or Podotrochlear Syndrome" or better defined by D'Arpe in 2010 as "Traumatic Solear Coriumitis". 

From Dr. D'Arpe's experience and from relevant scientific studies in the field of prolonged continuous Cryotherapy, shorter times than those recommended here seem to have no significant effectiveness. We also recommend the use of the shoe without Friotherapy after the acute phase; in this case the horse will wear 5 HEARTS only at night in 30cm bedding boxes in order to increase the blood flow to the Corium and increase sole thickness and protection helping to prevent both Coriumitis and Coriumosis.
